Our guest speaker will be the Honourable David Caplan, Minister, Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal. Minister Caplan will discuss the work that his ministry has done with partners in the public and private sector on such transportation and transit projects as the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe; the development of the Greater Toronto Transit Authority; the Provincial Gas Tax Program; the $1.5 billion multi-year GO Transit Expansion Program; and the $1.2 billion Move Ontario investment in public transit, roads and bridges announced in the 2006 Ontario budget. The Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal (PIR) works with partners inside and outside government to modernize public infrastructure, plan for growth, and care for the environment in ways that enhance our quality of life and contribute to our economic success. In 2005, PIR launched Renew Ontario, a five-year, $30 billion initiative to rebuild and revitalize Ontario's public infrastructure. A key part of PIR's mandate includes developing sector-specific infrastructure strategies, including the transportation and transit sector.
