The Missing Link: Improving Transportation in the Western GTHA, with Martin Powell, Commissioner of Transportation & Works, City of Mississauga and Lee Sims, Director, IBI Group.

In June 2015, Mississauga partnered with Toronto, Milton and Cambridge to undertake a feasibility study of the Missing Link. The Missing Link is a package of rail improvements, including an entirely new rail line as well as upgrades to several other lines that would result in a separation of major through freight rail traffic flows from passenger services on the Milton and Kitchener GO lines. The goal is to provide substantially expanded GO Train service on these lines to better connect and provide substantial transportation benefits to the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), Waterloo Region and Canada’s Continental Gateway.

Martin will speak about transportation and transit challenges in Mississauga and the western GTHA that led to the municipal partnership. Lee will talk about the technical aspects of the Missing Link, its feasibility and its potential benefits.
