Making Big Transportation Data Useful: Insights from the City of Toronto
presented by Jesse Coleman, Big Data Innovation Team Lead, City of Toronto

The Transportation Services Division at the City of Toronto created a new Big Data Innovation Team in 2015 with a mission to leverage emerging transportation datasets, in particular GPS probe-based data sources. The team is focused on conducting practical studies to develop an improved understanding of network performance and transportation issues across all modes in the City.

Jesse will provide an overview of what Big Data means for transportation engineers and planners, what new data sources are being leveraged, and how the City is looking to use Big Data to answer a number of challenging questions using data analytics.
