Mr. McNeely was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003. He entered municipal politics in 2000 because he wanted strong representation for the east end in the amalgamated city of Ottawa. As a councillor, he represented one of Canada's fastest-growing communities. He supported residents concerned with the pollution threats of factory farming, smoothed the way for the national farmer relief program known as Hay West and helped to bring an arts facility to the area. He has demonstrated his ability to work with colleagues and other levels of government to make things happen. Mr. McNeely also fought for his constituents on tough issues such as the Petrie Island Beach, an inner ring road, for Ottawa versus an outer ring road and fair hydro prices for all residents. Before entering politics, he was the owner and CEO of a successful engineering firm --McNeely Engineering. In this capacity he worked closely with municipal councils and government agencies to consult with affected citizens on numerous projects. Mr. McNeely is fluently bilingual and is a professional engineer. Born in Cumberland, he attended Lisgar Collegiate and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Engineering degree. He earned the equivalent of a master's degree in engineering from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine in London, England.
