Taking the Road Together: Peel Region’s New Approaches to Transportation
With Steve Ganesh, Manager, Transportation Program Planning, Region of Peel
In a 2011 Citizen Satisfaction Survey, transportation and traffic-related issues ranked among the top issues important to Peel residents and business owners. The Region is listening and moving forward with an ambitious annual capital program to deliver a transportation network that provides choice, supports the daily movement of $1.5 billion in goods, and connects people to the places they live, work, and play.
Peel’s philosophy to transportation is changing. Recent policy directions from the province have encouraged the region to look at the role of roads and land use in the rural landscape of Caledon, growing areas in Brampton, and the built-out areas of Mississauga.
Steve’s presentation will focus on “Taking the Road Together” – a compilation of the suite of transportation initiatives occurring in Peel, including current Council priorities such as goods movement and active transportation. The document provides insight into the Region’s new take on transportation planning, design, and construction in an era of financial constraint and competing needs from various stakeholders.
