The 2041 Regional Transportation Plan: From Plan to Making it Happen, with Antoine Belaieff, Director of Regional Planning at Metrolinx

The 2041 Regional Transportation Plan (2041 RTP) guides the work to transform the transportation system in the GTHA. It is a blueprint for creating an integrated multimodal regional transportation system that will serve the needs of residents, businesses and institutions. Three-years in the making, the 2041 RTP builds on the success of the first Regional Transportation Plan for the GTHA, The Big Move (2008), by putting the needs of travellers at the core of planning and operations. The 2041 RTP was recently approved by the Metrolinx Board of Directors. Region-wide coordination and collaboration is essential, as transportation stakeholders, including all levels of government, academic institutions, non-profit organizations, research institutes and the general public, move forward to realize the vision of the 2041 RTP.

Antoine will be taking a two-part approach to his presentation. First he will highlight key aspects of the 2041 RTP by going over the renewed vision for our region, the five strategies that frame the 2041 RTP, and key considerations that should be top of mind as we plan for the future of our region. The second part of his presentation will look to how we realize this vision and engage the audience to share their insights. Antoine will provide a brief overview of the implementation planning work currently underway to realize the 2041 RTP and will look to attendees to ignite discussion on various elements such as decision-making, funding, prioritization and performance monitoring, and approaches to initiate delivery of each of the 2041 RTP strategies.
