As Caledon progresses from a town to a city, its population is projected to nearly triple, reaching 300,000 residents by 2050. This rapid growth brings with it a significant challenge: transportation emissions. Currently, transportation is the town’s largest source of carbon emissions, with limited transit options and a reliance on commuter traffic contributing to the environmental impact. Achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 will require bold action to reduce and prevent the further growth of transportation-related emissions.

In this session, Cristina will provide an overview of Caledon’s key initiatives aimed at addressing transportation emissions. These include efforts in electrification, promoting shifts to more sustainable transportation modes, and integrating sustainability into planning for new developments. Cristina will also discuss the challenges the town has faced in implementing these initiatives, as well as share ideas for future projects designed to further reduce the environmental footprint of transportation in the region.
